The word ‘Studio’ is Italian meaning: an artist’s workplace, a photographer’s studio OR a place where art is taught or studied
Role of a Studio? A place to be creative, to bounce ideas off each other –inspiration from peers/
Why artist’s need studios, the use differs with the different mediums:
*       Dance – to practice
*       Painting/printmaking – experimenting
*       Music – practice, write
*       Photographer – take photos, experiment
Have you ever visited another artist’s studio, other than the ones a university? Yes, at the 2 Queens Gallery – rent is: £65 p/c/m full space OR £35 p/c/m half space.
What was it like? Mostly messy, lots of work everywhere, you could tell that the artists spent a lot of their time in there.
What do you think you should use your studio for at DMU? Experimenting, pin up work, talk through ideas with peers – bounce ideas off each other.
Considerations within the studio space? Basic health & safety, respect each other’s space, work and way off working.
Pitfalls of shared studios? People stealing ideas or materials/equipment, others could be disrespectful/messy not consider other’s feelings/space

Studio are used differently by different artists? Photographer’s studio – edit/take photos. Music studios – think up songs/write them, record them.
